What are Evidence Based Programs?

Evidence-Based Programs

Evidence-based programs (EBP) are health interventions that are proven effective to reduce disease and promote healthy lifestyles among its participants. Researched and evaluated extensively by doctors and health professionals, evidence-based programs provide consistent outcomes and documented health benefits, in efforts to build health conscious and resilient communities. Each program is designed to address a specific health need and manage its symptoms and progression.

Participant’s well-being may benefit from evidence-based programs in the following ways:

  • Boost individual’s self-confidence in their ability to transform negative behaviors into positive, healthy behaviors
  • Improve or accommodate physical limitations;
  • Alleviate pain;
  • Enriched mental health;
  • Maintain or increase independence;
  • Enhanced quality of life.

The Peer-Leader Model

The collaborative is committed to meeting the health needs of older adults in Rhode Island. To achieve this, OYH strives to train leaders who are peers to those in our workshops. A peer leader is a mentor, whose lived experiences, training, and developed skills enable them to successfully lead others through our evidence-based workshops. We have trained more than 90 older adult peer leaders who have led over 1,000 evidence-based programs throughout the state. Interested in becoming a peer leader?
